THERE iS A LOT THAT comes with a San Joaquin Farm Bureau membership, more savings and more discounts.

"The discounts we offer support our agricultural community and bring members together," said Rachael Fleming, SJFB program director. "The trend is that people join due to SJFB's advocacy for the membership and they discover that the discount programs are an ad-on to their membership. It pays to be a Farm Bureau member in San

Joaquin County."

Wide range of discounts offered

The member businesses offering the discounts benefit from the commerce brought to Farm Bureau. And there is a measure of altruism for those who're helping their colleagues in agriculture. Especially since the discounts are more wide-ranging than one might expect.

"These benefits aren't limited to discounts for the day-to-day needs of operating an agricultural business," said Fleming. "There are, for example, discounts for the Santa Cruz Boardwalk, Great America, and Six Flags Discovery Kingdom."

Discounts are also available at such venues as the San Diego Zoo, LEGOLAND and the CFBF also partners with Choice Hotels International and the  Wyndham Hotels with discounts up to 20 percent at participating locations. Do it yourselfers can shop Grainger, KellyMoore and Dunn-Edwards for those handy items to make your job easier, both the work and on your wallet.

Fleming notes, "SJFB members enjoy extra local discounts including everything from a new truck to trees."  "You can enjoy year-round savings including in the health-care market," Fleming explained. "Assistance is available from Keenan & Associates and can receive up to 75 percent in discounts for prescriptions. There are even discount rates for pet insurance."

And there is Nationwide, an insurance company that is definitely on your side, even more so with the discounts. "Hear more about how to utilize these discounts or ask about where else you can receive a discount by calling the SJBF office," Rachael Fleming said. The number to call for more information is: (209) 931-4931. Here is a selection of business members offering a variety of discounts.

He said the "biggest activity we do and the most important is educating people about agriculture."

"SJFB is fighting issues that are taking away our farms," Petersen said, noting that Farm Bureau is also "getting people involved who are being impacted by something, to take Farm Bureau's help and to stand up for ag."

"It's the people in ag that have the greatest impact in telling agriculture's story because they're involved and understand the issues we deal with," Petersen said. "We're betting that SJFB will maintain the memberships we provide and keep them involved."
