The San Joaquin Farm

Agriculture
in the Classroom
June
Seminar
Inspired
by the overwhelming response from area teachers, the San Joaquin Farm
Bureau Federation created the Agriculture in the Classroom seminar to
help teachers learn how to integrate agriculture into their classroom
curriculum. Since its inception in 1986, this seminar has been a
positive resource in helping teachers get the tools they need to educate
our future generations about agriculture in San Joaquin County.
The
Agriculture in the Classroom June Seminar, a four-day course, is
designed to expose teachers to the agriculture industry and provide
hands-on learning experience, including tours, curriculum development
and other activities. Teachers complete the course with a better
understanding about our local agricultural economy and are armed with
agricultural materials and strategies that can be transformed into
classroom lessons.
This
seminar includes tour stops at various local agricultural operations
such as a visit to a local dairy, where teachers learn how they can
incorporate agriculture into lesson plans and resource materials they
are provided. One past participant commented, "The seminar was
exceptional because of the variety of educational experiences. There is
a great advantage to seeing things first hand."
Since
1986, the San Joaquin Farm Bureau Federation and the SJFB Foundation for
Agricultural Education have hosted over 450 teachers in the annual June
Agriculture in the Classroom seminars. Each year, we have provided
teachers with the tools to incorporate San Joaquin County's rich
agriculture into their language arts, math and science curriculum.
